Hannah S. Eichberg was born in Seoul, South Korea and has been performing on stage since early childhood. She started to play piano at the age of 3 and later cello at age 12. Already after short time, she began winning national competitions and performed as soloist with the main orchestras. Next to her musical activities, she was also on the junior national team for rhythmic gymnastics. She has been teaching cello at the University of the Arts Berlin since 2008 and at the Schleswig Holstein Music Festival Orchestra Academy since 2015, where every year she teaches some of most talented music students from all over the world. She regularly serves on the jury for national and international comeptitions. Hannah S. Eichberg appeared early on as a soloist with all major Korean orchestras such as Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, KBS Orchestra and many other major Orchestras. After initial studies in Seoul at the Seoul national University, she was awarded the DAAD Prize by the German Government and continued her studies in Berlin with Prof. Jens Peter Maintz, first at the Musikhochschule „Hanns Eisler“ and since at the University of Arts Berlin, where she later became was appointed assistant for his class. As a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, she gained valuable artistic experience working with leading conductors of our time like Claudio Abbado, Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim and many others. A prizewinner of numerous national and international competitions, including Markneukirchen, the Domenico Gabrielli Competition, and the Viva Hall Cello Competition in Japan, Hannah S. Eichberg has served as principal cellist with notable ochestras such as the Komische Oper Berlin, the London Symphony Orchestra, and as guest with Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Odense Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, SWR Orchestra, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, Luzern Festival Orchestra and others. She performs chamber music with leading artists including Lars Vogt, Joshua Bell and Giovanni Sollima and appears at international festivals such as Verbier in Switzerland, Ravinia in the USA and Ferrara Musica and Ravenna Festivals in Italy.
