Marco Misciagna is recognized as one of the most extraordinary violinists and violists of his generation. He graduated very young, at just 15 years old, in violin and viola at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory in Bari, then continuing his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where he graduated with top marks and an honorable mention. As the best student of the Conservatory, he was invited to the Quirinale by the then President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi.

His artistic training has been enriched by internationally renowned masters such as Corrado Romano and D. Trkulja (former first violin of the Zagreb Quartet). He attended courses at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Boris Belkin and Jury Bashmet, obtaining the Diploma of Honor and winning the “Premio Monte dei Paschi di Siena” twice as best violinist and best violist, an achievement never achieved before in the history of the institution. He continued to perfect himself with Salvatore Accardo at the Accademia Stauffer in Cremona and the Accademia Chigiana (Diploma of Merit), as well as with Edward Grach and Michael Kugel.

In 1999 he won the first absolute prize at the national competition “M. Benvenuti” in Vittorio Veneto and, the only Italian, was invited to play in the prestigious halls of the Moscow State Conservatory during the “N. Paganini” Competition.

His concert career has led him to perform as a soloist with major national and international orchestras, appearing on the most prestigious stages in Europe, including the Berliner Philharmonie, the Essen Philharmonie, the Hamburg Laeiszhalle, the Mannheim Rosengarten, the Meistersingerhalle Nuremberg, the Prinzregententheater in Munich, the Arriaga Theater in Bilbao, the Musikverein in Vienna and the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. Overseas he has performed in famous venues such as the Balboa Theatre in San Diego, the Fox Tucson Theatre, the S. Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe, the Rudder Theatre in Texas, the Empire Theatre, the American Theatre in Hampton, the Lehman Center and Carnegie Hall in New York.

Misciagna was principal viola soloist of the Málaga String Orchestra, with which he recorded for Deutsche Grammophon together with the famous guitar quartet Los Romeros. He recorded the world premiere of the complete works for viola solo by composers such as Maurice Vieux, Blumenstengel, Hofmann, Supriani, Poilleux, Hoffmeister, Lvov, Rolla, Paganini and Bruni. For Brilliant Classics he recorded his transcriptions for viola of the 36 Caprices op. 3 by Fiorillo and the 41 Caprices by Campagnoli (Tottmann version), winning two gold medals at the Global Music Awards in California.

Also active in the chamber music repertoire, he has collaborated with prestigious ensembles such as the Ensemble Méditerranée, the Hipponion Ensemble, the Quatuor Abime, the Ensemble 2 Agosto, the Ensemble Oscar Niemeyer, the Trio Torrefranca and the Kissar Ensemble.

He has played alongside internationally renowned artists such as Antony Pay, Franco Petracchi, Uto Ughi, Alexander Markov, Mariana Sirbu, Ramin Bahrami, Vladimir Zubitsky, José Serebrier, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Muhai Tang, Alexander Rudin and Sergei Stadler.

Alongside his artistic activity, Marco Misciagna took part as protagonist in the radio program Vite in Musica (13 episodes) on RaiPlay Sound, dedicated to the Italian composer Marco Anzoletti. Through his interpretations, he contributed to valorizing and rediscovering the works of Anzoletti, offering the public a new perspective on his contribution to Italian music.

In the field of teaching, he has held masterclasses at institutions of excellence such as the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin, the Istanbul University State Conservatory, the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, the “P. Tchaikovsky” Conservatory in Kiev and the University of Santa Barbara in California. He is currently Professor of viola at the “N. Rota” Conservatory in Monopoli and Adjunct Professor at Bilkent University in Ankara.

He has been awarded the title of Honorary Professor by numerous institutions, including the Esteban Salas Conservatory in Santiago de Cuba, the Pettman National Junior Academy of Music in Auckland (New Zealand), and the S. Rachmaninov State Conservatory in Tambov (Russia). He is also an Honorary Professor of the Far Eastern State Academy of Art in Vladivostok (Russia) and the Institut Supérieur de Musique de Sousse (Tunisia).

For his artistic contributions, he has received important awards, including the Gold Medal for the 150th anniversary of the Kiev Opera House and the title of “Visitante Distinguido” of the city of Santiago de Cuba. He was awarded the Academic Oscar “Città di Napoli”, the Gold Medal of the Maison des Artistes at La Sapienza University in Rome and the “Vigna d’Argento” Award at Palazzo Montecitorio. He was named Messenger of Peace of Assisi Pax International and Ambassador of Peace in the World by the Universum Academy Switzerland.

Member of the European Cultural Parliament and of the Artistic Advisory Board of the Youth Philharmonic International Orchestra of New York, Marco Misciagna is also an Officer of the Volunteer Military Corps of the Italian Red Cross, auxiliary of the Armed Forces.
