Born in Rome on 2 August 1990, Matteo Rocchi began studying the violin at the age of ten, immediately showing a marked musical sensitivity. At just fourteen, he was admitted to the Conservatory, where he studied with M° Paris and later with M° Burton, graduating in 2012 with top honors and receiving the “A. Giannuzzi” scholarship as best graduate of the year.

His artistic development was further enriched through encounters with leading figures of the international music scene, including F. Fiore, B. Giuranna, S. Girshenko and S. Braconi, who contributed to shaping his strong artistic identity. At the same time, he gained significant orchestral experience: as early as 2007, he was selected for both the Italian Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra (EUYO), distinguishing himself and earning a scholarship from the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole.

In the following years, he deepened his chamber and solo repertoire at prestigious institutions. In 2012, he was admitted to the “Walter Stauffer” Academy under the guidance of Bruno Giuranna, and continued his studies at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole with renowned musicians such as B. Canino, the Trio di Parma, N. Gutman and A. Lucchesini, receiving a scholarship as best ensemble. In 2018, he graduated with highest honors from the Advanced Chamber Music Course at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.

His concert activity soon developed both as a soloist and chamber musician, leading him to perform in important concert seasons and festivals, including Amici della Musica di Ancona, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Festival Pontino, Roma Tre, AMA Calabria, and many other Italian concert institutions. In 2013, he also achieved significant success in competitions, winning first prizes in several national and international contests (Riviera Etrusca, Cerocchi, Antonelli, Magliano Sabina, Rospigliosi, Premio Crescendo), where he was also awarded as best violist.

Chamber music plays a central role in his artistic life. Since 2015, he has been the violist of the Quartetto Guadagnini, with which he performs extensively in Italy and abroad, appearing in prestigious venues and festivals such as the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Amici della Musica di Firenze, IUC in Rome, and numerous Italian Cultural Institutes (Paris, Strasbourg, Abu Dhabi), as well as on tours in Asia. With the Amartè Quintet, founded in 2010, he has received important recognitions, including first absolute prizes in chamber music competitions, and further refined his skills at the Accademia del Trio di Trieste, where he was awarded a scholarship as best ensemble.

Alongside the traditional repertoire, he maintains a strong interest in contemporary music: since 2013, he has been principal viola of the ensemble Imago Sonora and collaborates with leading groups such as PMCE and Divertimento Ensemble.

Throughout his career, he has shared the stage with internationally renowned artists including Franco Petracchi, Salvatore Accardo, Vincenzo Bolognese, Oleksandr Semchuk, Krzysztof Jablonski, Enrico Bronzi, and many others, further enriching his interpretative path.

His discography includes recordings for Amadeus magazine (2017), featuring works by Brahms and Dvořák performed with the Quartetto Guadagnini, and the recording of Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s quintet for Brilliant Classics (2021), in collaboration with pianist Costantino Catena. A live recording of a monographic concert held at the Sala Maffeiana in Verona, in duo with pianist Ludovica Vincenti, is also available on digital platforms.

Alongside his concert activity, Matteo Rocchi is also active as a teacher, giving masterclasses in Italy and abroad, particularly in Japan, China, and Thailand.
